So in 12 days, my baby, my firstborn, Cade starts kindergarten. I can hardly believe it! He would be starting tomorrow with our school district if we had him in it, so that’s why it’s on my mind tonight. He will be attending a half-day kindergarten at McGregor Presbyterian. I’ve gotten a lot of questions regarding why we did half-dy vs. whole-day from friends & family. Mostly because I don’t feel he’s ready to be gone all day yet. He still naps, he was only in 3 day preschool last year, with his mom as the director, and we had considered homeschooling this year.  As well as we are excited about the Christian teaching and spritiual foundation he’ll be receiving from his teachers. I would love for my babes to stay close to me & soak up the time with them. We thought this would be a happy medium between homeschooling and public school.

Where has time flow though? It seems as if I was just holding him yesterday, not Harper – and now he’s starting school. Wow!

Yesterday was one of those days.
It started with a rare snow day for us in Columbia. There was joy in my littles’ excitement about it, and it dragged me out of bed 2 hours early. Blah. I think that’s where the day started rough!
I just dragged alllllll day! I was unmotivated as a mom, wife, etc. and felt like I accomplished nada.

I guess we have those days, but I sure was happy to see bedtime roll around!

I know I have blogged on my other blog about complacency before, but I have some thoughts on my mind to share about it now. Probably more like rambles. Anyways, it seems as if complacency always leads to death if not dealt with. Complacency in your job or career cuts off creativity, innovation, drive. Complacency in your marriage leads to disconnect & conflict. Complacency in parenting means you’re not putting forth the best effort and looking for ways to serve and meet the needs of your children. And one I am most guilty of – complacency in your walk with Christ. Complacency in your walk with Christ leaves you feeling empty and unfulfilled. It can lead to sin and can lead to complacency in these other areas plus more. It seems as if this is out of alignment, then it’s difficult to sync the other areas of your life.

Some practical steps in combating complacency are to (1) journal (or blog) blessings or journeys in your life. You can see where you’ve been or the grace you’ve been given. Looking back on this brings to light the potential we have in our lives. (2) sharing with a friend. Kind of like accountability – sharing with a friend areas you’re just not “feeling” it. This will possibly help you if it’s an issue of sin you’re dealing with. (3) pray – pray for passion. God wants our excellence in all we do. We are short-cutting Him when we don’t do our best, being that He’s the one who has given us our abilities and sustains us. He will deliver us from those feelings.

Just my $.02 worth. I know I have been through many valleys where I have felt complacent in one area or another. First I check to see if I am getting the sleep and nutrition I need. Then I find one of the above areas helpful in getting through it. What do you do when you feel you are battling complacency in your life in an area?

I was talking with a friend today about friendships and the “realness” we experience within them. We were saying how at times we feel like we might be more quiet or introverted in situations with friends where we know we should really open up and “be ourselves.” However, even in circles of close-knit relationships we hesitate to do so for fear of – I don’t know, judgment? ridicule? rejection?

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a group of friends, although all different, who can TOTALLY be themselves, flaws, imperfections, failures and all and still be nothing but love and support? I think a lot of women especially have experienced rejection at some point in a relationship and therefore hold themselves back from these types of relationships for fear of being hurt again. I love my friends. I have some of the best friends in this world, yet something in me always holds back from letting me be me. I think part of it is the enemy using our insecurities to make us feel fear in vulnerability and authenticity. Will my friends love me the way I am with my flaws and all?

I typically give my kids water or milk to drink. Juice is a treat in our house. I don’t feel they need the additional sugar or artificial coloring that many juices have, they get a ton of it already, and I don’t care to spend the money either. Well, at Sam’s Club the other day I noticed “Honest Kids Organic Thirst Quencher” juice pouches. They are in a container much like Capri Suns. They are USDA Organic, but even better, they contain water, cane sugar (one of the best forms of unprocessed sugars for us), a few organic juice concentrates depending on the flavor, and if it is coloring – it’s all natural, like purple carrot juice for coloring or beta carotene. There are 3 flavors – Grape Goodness, Berry Berry Good Lemonade, and Tropical Tango Punch. Cade and Benjamin love them and I have to admit they are really good. As far as juice goes, I feel pretty good about them drinking these.

Why did I ever think I could keep up with another blog???

Sigh.

What is more sweet than waking up to your 2 year sweetly singing from his bed, “Jesus loves me i know for the Bible tells so.”

When did he grow up?

After attending a workshop on blogging this past week, I realized that the contents of my Children’s Ministry blog were too broad. It started as professional development, but I have friends and family that follow it as well. To keep that blog more church leadership focused, I started this one as a way of communicating with my friends and family. You’ll be kept updated on family happenings, interesting things I am passionate about, parenting, my spiritual journey, and of course boy fluff! Hope you enjoy! :)
