I don’t typically LOVE summer. For our family it is crazy busy. Out of 4 weeks, we’re spending 3 apart from each other juggling the boys, living as single parents. Yuck! It is hot and humid. Not to mention, rain is always in the forecast. Preschool is out, so trying to work while finding child care is a challenge as well. I have to admit that my attitude goes sour thinking of summer probably about the time March rolls around.
This summer I am determined to make the best of it. I want to truly enjoy Cade and Benjamin, make great memories, and spend time noticing the joys that God gives us in this season. I desire to slow down, take it one day at a time and have fun.
Last week when JD was gone out of town for the first trip, we had a nifty schedule for the week with fun activities planned each day – fun summer things we did were: our Pirate Party, I took the boys to Charleston for 2 days and stayed overnight in a hotel with them, and we went to the Splash Pad (a water park at the YMCA). When JD came back, we went out on a boat on the lake for the boys first-ever boat trip.
Today we made Goop. You mix cornstarch with water and it does this crazy solid to liquid property thing. The boys were covered with white Goop from head to toe, so then we had to play in the sprinkler!
I just asked JD a bit ago if it was okay if they painted the fence in the backyard. I think we’ll get some fun paint colors and give them a large palatte to brighten up our backyard.
Some other fun summer ideas I’m thinking of:
- homemade popsicles
- blueberry picking
- camping trip (in a tent!)
- more water fun days
- mud party next time it rains
What are you doing this summer to take it easy, enjoy family, and have fun?
